How many episodes are there in The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe?
There are four episodes in total of The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe.
The mini-series was inspired by a memoir written by journalist David Leigh based on true events.
The series recalls what happened to John Darwin who was seen paddling out to sea in his canoe in Seaton Carew in 2002.
He faked his own death on a canoe, to which his wife reports him missing and he was later declared dead.
But in reality, John was still alive, and living next door to their family home in a bedsit.
Their elaborate plan meant that they were able to claim on John’s life insurance and clear themselves of the £700,000 debt they were in.
They planned to use the remaining amount to start a new life in Panama, but their plan soon falls drastically apart.
Who stars in the ITV show?
Protagonist John Darwin is played by Eddie Marsan, known for his roles in Deadpool 2 and Happy-Go-Lucky.
Wife Anne is played by Monica Dolan, best known for playing Rosemary West in Appropriate Adult.
The couple’s two sons, Mark and Anthony, who knew nothing about the insurance scam at the time, are played by Mark Stanley and Dominic Applewhite.
Also starring in the series is Karl Pilkington as DC Phil Bayley, Karina Fernandez, Lois Chimimba, David Fynn, Alice Arding, Francesca Knight, Colin R Campbell and ex Coronation Street star Andrew Lancel.
When does it start?
The Thief, His Wife and The Canoe kicks off on ITV on Bank Holiday Sunday, April 17, 2020 at 9pm.
The remaining three episodes will air the same time on the following Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Once each episode has aired, it will become available to watch via the ITV Hub.
