How to organise a party
STREET parties are believed to have started here in 1919 as “peace teas” after WWI as a treat mainly for children following the hardships of war.
After this the uniquely British tradition developed as neighbours continued to organise them on all major days of celebration.
Here are some tips on how to throw a party in your community:
- A street party doesn’t need to be complicated — everyone can bring something and you can ask a few neighbours to share the organising.
- You DO NOT need a licence for a street party of residents.
- For most small gatherings, all your council needs to know is where and when the closure will need to take place. They will put in place a temporary closure. This can take six weeks so apply NOW.
- Alternatively, you can keep the road open and organise a gathering on private land and you won’t have to fill in any council forms.
