This year has already seen several targeted attacks of Amazon delivery vans (Pictures: Ben Lack-YappApp)
This is the shocking moment an Amazon van loaded with packages was stolen by opportunistic thieves.
CCTV footage shows the courier – wearing a high-vis vest – stepping out to make a delivery yesterday afternoon in the village of Great Preston, near Leeds.
Moments after he crosses the road to the address, two men on a motorcycle approach the dark blue van with the Amazon logo on the side.
As one of the jumps in on the driver’s seat, the delivery driver is seen running across the road, yelling and chasing after the thieves as the van accelerates away with various other packages in the back.
Realising the severity of what has happened, he hails down a car driving in the opposite direction.
A later part of the video shows a West Yorkshire Police van arriving at the scene of the crime.
According to neighbours, the courier told locals he had been attacked and robbed of his keys before his vehicle was stolen.
But in the footage, he appears to have left the vehicle parked on the curb of the road with the engine running, probably to save time.
It is understood police recovered the van nearby but it is not yet clear how many parcels were stolen.
There have already been several similar incidents this year, where couriers have been targeted by gangs.
Just last month, another Amazon van was stolen in Royton, Greater Manchester, while the driver was making deliveries.
At the time, a witness told the Mirror the attack appeared to have been ‘planned’.
‘From what I can see it was all planned and the driver had been followed and they looked for the right moment to make a move and steal the van,’ they said.
Metro.co.uk has contacted Amazon UK and West Yorkshire Police for a comment.
