KHAYON EDWARDS has ended speculation over his Arsenal future by reportedly penning his first professional contract at the Emirates.

Edwards has featured in 22 games in all competitions for the academy this term – chipping in with 17 goals and six assists.

His dazzling displays caught the attention of Chelsea, who were claimed to have made contact with the youngster.

Meanwhile it has been said that Brighton had made an approach to lure Edwards to the south coast.

German sides RB Leipzig and Hertha Berlin have also been keeping tabs on Edwards, along with Dutch giants Feyenoord.

Meanwhile, it is believed that Leeds, Newcastle and Southampton have also shown interest in Edwards.

The teenager was on a scholarship deal that was set to expire at the end of the campaign.

But according to The Athletic, Edwards put pen to paper on extending his stay at Arsenal last week.

Edwards, who has had his season cut short due to injury, is now tied down at Arsenal until 2025.

He is now due to continue his development for the U23s instead of being shipped out on loan in his quest to break into the first team.

Speaking recently, academy boss Per Mertesacker spoke of his vision to create a ‘Strong Young Gunners’ at a Youth Development webinar.

He said: “I think it was formulated four years ago, in my last season as a player.

“I came up with a framework of what I believe, from my own experience and also by talking to people.

“Strong Young Gunners means this is our vision where we want our players to stand strong in every scenario they will face.

“We are passionate about creating youngsters who can rise to any challenge and we have a rich history and heritage we want to pay tribute to and carry on.”
